There’s a lot that is true in your article. Lowell is hard on the students. It does grind many of them down, many of them do struggle with sleepless nights, it doesn’t make for great teenage years. Etc, etc.

But it does produce the product our society desperately needs to stay competitive - highly intelligent, well-educated graduates that are used to competing hard, grinding hard, and not settle. We need these people - and we need a place like Lowell. Other parts of the world - China, India, Brazil, etc - produce them in much higher quantities. We need more Lowell’s - not less.

Granted - going to Lowell (just like being a CEO or playing in NFL) is not a path for everyone. But this path must remain open for those who can take advantage of it.
