Happy to hear about your new column! I moved from Colorado Springs to Oakland 39 years ago & called you up on at the suggestion of mutual newspaper friends in that benighted city. You took me to lunch in one of the old-line SF restaurants (Jack's? Tadich Grill?) and gave me the best and most complete tutorial about Bay Area journalism ever. I was at the late, great Oakland Tribune & we ran into each other covering stuff. You always had the inside track of whatever was going on & were generous about pointing me in the right direction (a features writer trying to navigate sports). It was a great pleasure to know you and to read your stuff. I decamped for New Orleans a decade & half later. In 2013 it was a great pleasure to show you around some of the local nooks & corners when you came to cover the Super Bowl. We had melancholy talks about the state of daily newspapers, which was illustrated by you being the only color reporter sent by the Chron to that Super Bowl, in contrast to the armies of writers & reporters & editors sent in better times. I'm looking forward to following you here, the guy who always knows what the real story is.
Gosh, I'd forgotten our SF lunch. Did I do that? What I haven't forgotten is the tour of New Orleans you took me on, including some of the best BBQ I've ever had. Good to hear from you Harriet.
